South Yorkshire People United Against Crime

Another enduring initiative for People United Against Crime is the provision of youth shelters and other outdoor facilities for young people.

The project began with the purchase of a portable youth shelter, which can be placed into a community as a temporary facility for young people. The youth shelter acts as a focal point for consultation over more permanent facilities such as a multi-use games area.

To meet the demand for youth shelters People United Against Crime now controls the placement of three portable shelters, which are in constant demand throughout South Yorkshire.

Another initiative that operates up to the present day is the development of an advisory service to local firms about their drugs and alcohol policy for employees.

Over the years, dozens of South Yorkshire based companies have attended seminars and received one-to-one support from People United Against Crime regarding the introduction of updating of a drug and alcohol policy for the workforce.

Companies receive support in developing their drug and alcohol policy and training for the supervisory staff who will be expected to implement or enforce the policy.

People United Against Crime developed a website, which provided information on Basic Skills and was targeted at agencies who work with offenders and individuals who are socially excluded.

The South Yorkshire Community Information Network (SYCIN) website received over 110,000 hits in the first month, with a peak of visits being late August and early September as individuals looked for vovational or educational courses at the beginning of the new academic year.
