People United Against Crime employs young people to research the views of their peers
People United Against Crime has carried out research with young people about their attitudes to a wide range of issues faced by teenagers today.
To achieve the goal of greater understanding of young people's attitudes, a survey was devised after consultation with representative groups of youngsters.
After the initial drafts, the questionnaire was used with a number of volunteers from all over South Yorkshire, who provided invaluable feedback before the final version was completed by over 500 young people.
The topics probed by the questionniare include anti-social behaviour; gang membership; carrying weapons; underage drinking; illegal drugs and many others.
People United Against Crime identified a number of young people willing to submit themselves for training before carrying out the questionniare amongst their friends and classmates. This group of 20 young people spent a day at the LifeWise Centre reviewing the contents and being trained in techniques to administer the questionnaire.
