We are all becoming increasingly aware
of the levels of anti-social behaviour that we witness,
seemingly on a daily basis. Such behaviour takes many
forms including rowdiness, graffiti, vandalism, litter,
road rage and dog fouling.
All of which detract from quality of our lives, cost
money to put right and do a great deal to increase the
fear of crime amongst vulnerable groups.
Government has given the police and courts new powers
such as Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBO's) to deal
with the more extreme versions of this phenomenon.
People United Against Crime's contribution to combating
anti-social behaviour is to work with local communities
throughout South Yorkshire to provide more facilities
for young people.
Through the provision of amenities such as youth shelters,
multi-use games areas, skate parks and an Internet Cafe,
we have been able to engage young people and move them
to recreational areas where they are less intimidating
to the wider community.
In addition to the provision of the new facilities
we integrate their use with 'outreach' strategies through
the services of youth workers, community police officers
and health workers. |
